Jají and the Coffee Trail

The coffee route is a 1 day tour based in a 4×4 transport. It is a great chance to see some of the fantastic mountains of Merida, as well as see, learn, and understand some of the history, industry, and culture of the region. Also, you will be able to observe a vast range of vegetation, from mountain forest, to high dry bare landscapes, to cloud forest, to dry desert vegetation of cactus´s and so on.
Leaving at 8am, the route climbs up in the direction of Jají, passing 2 stunning waterfalls of Los Gonzales and Salto Jají itself. Afterwards we arrive at Jají, a small Andean, colonial town, but important for its agricultural and handicraft produce. We have a chance to visit the church, the Plaza Bolivar, and explore the small cobbled streets. After Jají, the guide will take you down to San Juan and Lagunillas, which has the Laguna de Urao.
After lunch you will visit the colonial coffee farm of Hacienda La Victoria, close to Santa Cruz de Mora, which is now a coffee and migration museum, which will explain to you the coffee making history, its importance in the state of Merida, and also the process from the coffee plant to the coffee you have in your cup! There is also a local products shop at the end if you want to buy some genuine Venezuelan coffee to take back with you!
After the coffee farm we will pass by a Sugar Cane factory, which represents another key industry in Merida, where you be learn the process of Sugar cane, and have a chance to see some being made in front of your eyes!
