Mucuposada´s- literally ´sleeping places´- are ecologically founded, basic Posadas in the middle of the mountains of the Andes. There are various routes that we can arrange across the mountains, which have been made available by the strategic development of the Mucuposada´s here in Merida, which due to their key locations in places of natural beauty both in terms of wildlife and plant life, have opened up many mountain treks which previously were inaccessible.
All of these routes include around 5-6 hours walking daily, and include a huge range of landscapes, from cloud forest, to Andean bare highlands. If you are looking for the chance to do some walking, but the peaks of Humboldt and Bolivar are too much of a challenge, this is a perfect option to escape into the silence of the mountains, accompanied only by the noise of the mule that will carry you equipment, and the birds and the wind.
The main routes are:
3 days- 2 nights LA CULATA- PAN DE AZUCAR- HOT SPRINGS IN LA MUSUI- MUCUCHIES
Starting in La Culata, at approx. 3000m this 3 day route takes you to the Peak of Pan de Azucar at 4700m, before descending on the north eastern face to the highest hot springs in venezuela (La Musui 3200m). The route takes you to all the sites of natural beauty in the National Park La Culata, and is accesable to all with a decent level of health. Both nights you spend in tent.
5 days- 4 Nights LOS NEVADOS- SOCOPÓ
The route from los Nevados to Socopó starts in the small Andean town of Los Nevados at 3000m and takes you from the Andean highlands to the plains of Socopó, close to sea level. Passing by various types of vegetation over the space of 5 days, the path is mainly downhill, and the nights are spent in Mucuposadas or mountain refuges. It is an excellent chance to see some of the Andean culture.
6 days- 5 nights GAVIDIA- SANTA MARIA DE CANAGUÁ
Leaving from the beautiful town of Gavidia, close to Mucuchies, this route takes you from the Andes to the plains of Barinas. The variation of the National Park Sierra Nevada, as much in vegetation as animal life (180 types of bird) is impressive. Some nights will be spent in tent, other in Mucuposada/mountain refuge.
